Calangute beach is often crowded with people,
children making sand castles, colorful crowds
surging towards the sea, where the young and
the old alike laze on the golden sands. This
picture of a perfect tourist haven is
completed with shacks and stalls under the
shade of palm trees selling everything from
fried prawns and beer to trinkets made of
seashells.
Location Access : Calangute beach
is flanked on its southern side by the village
of Candolim and on its northern side by the
hamlet of Baga at a distance of 12 kms from
Mapusa, 13 kms from Panaji and 50 kms from
Dabolim airport.
Beach Activities : Calangute also makes a
perfect beach site to indulge in some water
sports activities. Parasailing, water skiing,
wind surfing, snorkeling, kayaking, water
skiing, sailing and swimming are some of the
water sports activities at the Calangute
beach. Calangute is considered a reasonably
safe place to swim. It is always advisable to
swim in the designated areas where lifeguards
are available.
Attractions Nearby : Kerkar Art Gallery
displays the paintings and sculptures of
various talented, upcoming artists of Goa. The
gallery also hosts a night of Indian music and
dance, once every week. Church Of St. Alex
which is located on the entrance of
Calangute greets the visitors with its two
towers, magnificent dome gracing the façade,
architectural style and attractive altars.
How to Reach :
There are frequent bus service to
Calangute from Panaji and Mapusa. The nearby
places can be reached by hiring motorbikes, or
by taxis or auto rickshaws. |
